blog8It has been a while since we provided a new blog entry for our many customers and fans, and I thought it would be great to get it back up and running with an interview. This week we will be featuring our Recreational Manager, James Booth. James has a lot of experience in this industry, and every day he is educating himself on the ever-changing and exciting legalized recreational industry here in Colorado.

CO: When did you get your start in the marijuana industry and how?

JB: I loved the idea of helping people, since back then, it was only medical that was available. I was able to see first-hand how medical marijuana helped people’s lives for the better–people with debilitating diseases being given a better quality of life from the use of medical marijuana. But I also really loved the fact that it was a natural, alternative medicine that anyone could grow in their homes.

CO: What are some common misconceptions/preconceived notions about working in this industry?

JB: Pretty much everyone assumes this is kind of a party job, where all of the employees are high all day and lack fundamental occupational skills. Not only are we not allowed to consume marijuana on the clock and on the property, but all of our employees are customer-service oriented, experienced, and knowledgeable when it comes to marijuana itself, as well as the laws.  Industry regulations change as often as weekly, so full compliance is necessary for us to serve our customers effectively (and legally). That being said, you know the saying about how if you enjoy your job, you don’t work a day in your life? That’s how I feel coming here every day.

CO: What unexpected/unforeseen changes to the laws do you personally feel may occur in the next few years, or even months?

JB: In the next couple months, starting January 1, will be the beginning of the Equivalency Laws putting into effect. This means that edibles and hash will be equivalent to a predetermined amount of flower. Basically, one gram of hash as well as a 100mg edible will both be equivalent to ⅛ of flower, whereas it used to be a one for one equivalency. Customers will definitely want to rethink making larger purchases when they come in up until the new year.

CO: Do you think the legalized recreational cannabis industry will be able to stick around and continue to progress nationwide, and even worldwide? Why or why not?

JB: I think in the next five years, the recreational industry will definitely be legalized and start expanding nationally. And other countries, like Australia and Colombia, are making landmark court decisions on an individual basis, and beginning legislation to move in that direction.

CO: What do you love THE MOST about the industry?

JB: I love that it is always exciting and new since it is constantly changing. And it is still amazing to be able to help recreational as well as medical customers find something that caters to their needs and interests. Marijuana is an amazing and gorgeous plant!

Thanks to James for all of his industry knowledge and the hard work he continues to put in every day here at Choice Organics. Stay tuned for next week!
